RESULTS FROM
Paul Pearson In Association With AKA England's
IKF MTR - OSR & ISCF MMA CHAMPIONSHIPS

February 23rd, 2008 - Cockerton, Darlington, England

  • WHO: Paul Pearson In Association With AKA England
  • WHERE: Cockerton, Darlington, England
  • WHAT: IKF Muay Thai - Open Scoring Rules & ISCF MMA CHAMPIONSHIPS
  • IKF Representative: David Eckersley
  • IKF Referee: Craig Booth

Saturday 23rd February 2008 was the date A.K.A. England in partnership with Paul Pearsons Fire Cobra Gym staged the first event of the 2008 season. The venue for this competition was The Cockerton Centre, in Darlington, near Newcastle, England.

This IKF sanctioned Kickboxing competition was conducted under *Olympic Style Rules similar to Olympic Amateur Boxing featuring 'Open Scoring' using electronic score boards.
(*) However, keep in mind that because of the USOC, the term "Olympic Style Rules" cannot be used in the USA, so there it is called Open Scoring Rules.

The OSR rules are proving very popular now with even more schools in attendance at this event, as more athletes look to compete in a safe competition format. Of particular attraction to the OSR format is the 'Outclass' rule, that ensures an athlete is protected form taking too much punishment. This comes into effect through the 'Open Scoring' on the electronic scoreboards, and should an athlete be losing to an opponent by 20 points or more a contest is stopped due to 'Outclass'.

Supporting the OSR Kickboxing bouts, were several IKF Kickboxing bouts under MTR (Muay Thai Rules) as well as a Sport-Combat ( MMA ) match. The top of the billing for this event were four International titles ( OSR ) and a British Title ( MTR ). These were

  • IKF Amateur OSR World Light-Middleweight title.
  • IKF Amateur OSR World Featherweight title.
  • IKF Amateur OSR Intercontinental Light-Middleweight title ( DEFENCE ).
  • IKF Amateur OSR European Lightweight title.
  • IKF Amateur MTR British Light-Welterweight title.

Headline international bouts were contested between England and Turkey. Supporting athletes travelled from across the United Kingdom as competitors, and the local community from Darlington showed their appreciation by giving everyone tremendous support, (reflected by the fact that the event sold out two weeks prior!!!).

The original scheduled contests, had to be re-organized due to weight problems with the visiting team. These situations very occasionally arise, especially when athletes travel to different countries and make changes to their diet - which can result in water retention etc.. Amateur athletes on IKF events are not requested to dehydrate as safety is paramount on these types of events and teams involved compromised and worked together to bring what was a great event. This amateur martial arts championships was organized thanks to the support of the official 2008 sponsor of the AKA England Circuit, one of the worlds leading martial arts equipment suppliers MAR International (www.qualitymartialarts.com).

Everyone that was involved in this event would like to thank Mr. Ali proprietor of M.A.R. International for his support, as well as Steve Fossum, the president of the International Kickboxing Federation.

IKF Point Kickboxing Results from Antioch, CA
Coming Later This Week!

Antioch, CA
Another exciting event of IKF Point Kickboxing event happened this past weekend in Antioch, CA. Earlier this past week, we talked about the kicks missing in kickboxing...not this weekend! We witnessed all kinds of kicks being thrown along with impressive boxing as each opponent tried to get the upper hand in exciting semi- contact action! Fighters as heavy as 350lbs competed and threw head kicks that brought looks of wonder from the crowd! We also witnessed fighters who did not take the event serious enough and become gassed before the first round was over. The referee had to stop several matches due to a few fighters being too exhausted to compete effectively and the bout became unsafe.

This is part of the beauty of IKFPoint Kickboxing in that it gives fighters a chance to evolve without the embarrassment of being humiliated and knocked out.

Fighters traveled as far away as 500 miles to attend this weekend's event and I don't think they left disappointed as they got plenty of action and their skilled were tested to the max!

We hope to see more fighters come to attend the events as the exciting IKFPKB 2008 Circuit continues. In the words of top trainer Billy Olsen of Santa Rosa, CA "I kick myself for not getting involved 5 years ago when Johnny ask me to attend!" Mr. Olsen and his team attended their first event this past January 2008 in Sacramento and in his own words said "We are hooked and will be attending all of the events especially to help us get ready for the IKF World Classic in July this year!"

The IKF World Classic is the largest amateur only kickboxing event in the world and offers Full Contact and Semi Contact competition. To read more info, click HERE!

Who will be crowned champion for 2008! See you March 22, 2022 in Roseville, CA for the next edition of IKFPoint Kickboxing! More information at www.IKFPKB.com

Results From Griffin's Martial Arts
"IKF Point Kickboxing Tournament"
February 16th, 2008 - Indian Trial, North Carolina, USA

February 18, 2008- Indian Trail, North Carolina, USA
IKF/PKB North Carolina Representative and Promoter Mr. Sean Griffin (L) reports another fun and exciting IKF Point Kickboxing tournament this past weekend (February 16, 2022). Moreover, he was proud to announce the start of the North Carolina IKF/PKB Circuit. With nine events schedule for the West Coast and only three currently schedule on the East Coast, Mr. Griffin and IKF/PKB President Johnny Davis came up with the idea to expand the semi contact circuit to NC to give those from the East Coast a better chance of winning a title at the end of the year.

The Circuit Points will be kept by Mr. Griffin who will past them on to the IKF/PKB at the end of the year. The championship titles and awards will be given at the end of this year and, or at the first event of the following year. Although the East Coast events are not quiet as large as the West Coast events yet, this should add to the excitement of the tournaments as each competitors now knows that they have a bigger purpose for getting the win!

Mr. Griffin said, that "I'm excited about what the circuit offers to the NC Point Kickboxing competitors. I feel that it is the first step to really growing the IKF/PKB in this area. Several promoters have expressed interest in promoting IKF/PKB events and I look forward to adding more events to the circuit in the coming months. Mr. Davis has mentioned that if the timing is right, he will come to NC to help present the awards to the champions...that would be impressive and exciting as it would show competitors that the IKF appreciates all levels of competitors! "

What is Kickboxing Missing?
Kicking?
Or Is There More...

By Steve Fossum, IKF President

Rick "The Jet" Roufus

Dennis "The Terminator" Alexio,

You remember them. Fighters such as Benny 'The Jet' Urquidez, Don "The Dragon" Wilson, Curtis "The Explosive Thin Man" Bush, "Magic" Cliff Thomas, Dennis "The Terminator" Alexio, Bill "Superfoot" Wallace, Rick "The Jet" Roufus, just to name a few. When they lifted their leg, they could place it on a dime with tons of Knock Out Power added in. To them, a spin kick was no big deal, a double roundhouse, "Serve it up baby!" To them, the front push kick and the lazy roundhouse without any snap didn't exist. To them, if you kicked, you kicked with speed, power and incredible accuracy to find the opening, not just land into the arms.

So where are those kickers today? Where are the fancy spin kicks and combo roundhouse kicks that put kickboxing on the map? Has accuracy and pin point precision been replaced with blunt power? Sure, the kicks are still powerful, but how often do you see them land on an open target with knockout precision and power and not on the arms of a fighter? Have we lost the great kicking teachers of years past?

When kickboxing fighters came from karate schools and styles such as Tae Kwon Do, Kajukenbo, Tang Soo Do and Kung Fu, kicks were much more than just strong. They "SNAPPED!"

"I'm gonna take this right foot, and I'm gonna whop you on that side of your face... and you wanna know something? There's not a damn thing you're gonna be able to do about it." said Tom Laughlin as the character Billy Jack in one of the famous quotes in one of the Billy Jack movie to. Up into the air he went with a spin and he landed the kick with accuracy and quickness... And his opponent couldn't do anything to stop it.

Sure, it was a movie. However, what made Kickboxing an Exciting sport to watch in the 80's and 90's was that special skill that not everyone could do, and it was done with the legs... Not throws or the hands of boxing. It separated Kickboxing from Boxing in an EXCITING way!

We recently reviewed some fight clips from several 2007 events. The kick we saw most was not a strong side kick. It wasn't a deceptive round kick or a shuffle set up spinning side kick... It was the well known, lazy front push/snap kick. Fighter after fighter just laying it out there. We were taught the same kick to find distance, just like the jab. We were not taught that kick in hopes to score easy points with the kick counters, some of which never land, but kick counters counted them anyway... Full Contact Rule bouts with fighters barely getting their kicks to the hips and by rounds end, barely making their required minimum of 6 kicks.

Have you ever seen fighters such as Eric Regan... Dave Marinoble, Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson... If your doing tally strokes on a piece of paper during one of their fights, you run out of paper before you run out of the round.

In the article yesterday we talked about a Gut Check for Kickboxing. Maybe the answers are within and not the fault of TV turning their backs to us and from what we found, it's not just the lack of exciting kickers in our sport.

We recently took a look at what the sport is doing different now than it was 10 years ago when it was thriving. We wonder why MMA has surpassed kickboxing by leaps and bounds as if all of us were flat on our feet.... And maybe some of us were... Maybe we thought a simple front push kick "Should" have won us the round, won us our sport over. However, it wasn't... It was boring and sad to watch. I know Curtis Bush is reading this and I'd like to know what he thinks of the sport today. His love is in above the waist full contact. Others have love in leg kicking or Muay Thai. However, I don't necessarily believe it's the style that makes a better kicker or more exciting fighter. I remember several Muay Thai fights where a fighter landed a kick up aside their opponents head and brought the house down. I don't think it's so much "Style" as it is "Training".

Benny 'The Jet' Urquidez

Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson

Endurance, as in any sport is a major issue. You can do all the sparring and road work you want to but get in the ring the first time and the adrenaline alone can wind you before the first bell rings. The more one competes, the better they "Should" get. However, we have all seen fighters with 5, 10, 15 fights still getting tired in the ring after 3-4 rounds. WHY?

It's easy to be a critic and that's exactly what I'm doing here. Some may not like what I'm saying, but I doubt many if any will disagree with me and that's not being arrogant. it's just calling it what it is, no matter how hard the truth hurts us all, even us here at the IKF.

Where is the excitement in our Kickboxing? As a fighter, are you EXCITING? Have you made yourself a feared opponent? Can you stand in a room like Dennis Alexio, Benny Urquidez or Don Wilson once could when they were fighting and make others KNOW you were or are the best without throwing a kick or a punch? What are you known for? What separates you from the others? Why would a fight fan want to pay money to see you, but care less about seeing someone else? How have YOU marketed yourself as a fighter?

Remember, as a fighter, you are also an entertainer. You NEED to make people WANT to see you. You NEED to make Promoters WANT to book you for a fight and if few fight fans know you, and few buy tickets because of you, what makes you desired by a promoter?

However, how many of you have set out to make yourself a Fight Star? A Fighter every promoter would LOVE to have on their fight card? We mentioned below how Spike TV spent millions in marketing the UFC show. However, long before Spike, MMA fighters were raising the bar, raising the volume in entertainment. They STOOD UP, Shouted out loud and made fans love them or hate them and no matter what it was, they wanted to see them fight. They either loved them so much they wanted to see them win or hated them so much they wanted to see them lose but when an MMA Fighter talked about his game, he TALKED it UP!

Fighters like Dennis Alexio went with a "Bad Boy" image. So much that the majority of the fans that came to see him wanted to see someone knock him out. However, after Alexio knocked his opponents out, the Alexio haters could only watch in ahhhhh and say "Holy Crap!"

Benny 'The Jet' Urquidez would dazzle you with his quickness and those ever flashy kicks coming from all over. Don "The Dragon" Wilson didn't really have any signature moves, but when he came to fight, he simply took care of business and in doing so, seemed to never lose his temper, before or after battle. He stood like a karate fighter but hit you like a Heavyweight prize fighter. Nothing fancy, just taking care of business as needed... But still, even the "Dragon" had fancy, accurate and powerful kicks. Bill "Superfoot" Wallace amazed us all with just one of his legs... Yes, just one. It may not sound like a lot, but if you ever talked to someone who was hit with it, they will tell you, one hit with a Bat is enough...

Is it just the fighter's that have lost the "Pizzazz" or have the rest of us slowed down too? Where is all the News on the IKF News page Steve? We need more news, more articles, more build-up to fights! What about our events? Are they so exciting that fans can't wait till the next one? I don't mean just the fights themselves, I mean the look of the venue. Look at your ring Promoters, is it ALIVE? Is it the "Center Stage" of your event, well lit up with exciting colors or are all the house lights on and the ring is lost in the sea of chairs surrounding it... Are all your officials wearing IKF Officials shirts or are they all dressed in different colors and styles from jeans to sport coats. One thing about the ISCF is the desire of representation and uniformity among the Officials. Look around the fight cage or ring at nearly every ISCF event and you will see the Officials all wearing ISCF Official shirts.

How is your music, your lights, your announcer? Have you realized that they too are a BIG part of your overall production. That some fight fans stay away from events just because the ring announcer is either too boring or talks too much. When do you start your event?

Are you on time or are you 20 minutes late in starting your event waiting for something like ice for the locker rooms or a kick counter at ringside? How TIGHT is your show? Here's a Gut Check for you. A few years ago I was at an IKF Event in the Midwest of a well established, seasoned IKF Promoter. What I'm about to say, I never told him, so you are all hearing it for the first time. For various reasons, his event started about 20 minutes late. At the time, I didn't think much of it because as many here know, for whatever reason, we have all come to accept and or allow our events to start late... WHY we allow and accept this I don't know but somewhere along the line it became a common expectation among a lot of Promoters. However, on this night, it may have cost Kickboxing it's big break.

After the event, I was approached by a Production Scheduling executive of a major TV Company. No need to say who because from this incident, that deal was lost. The gentleman and his two associates informed me that they had called our IKF Office in search for a possible Promoter to work with in doing some live events. Someone at our office gave him this promoters name among several others. They told me they had been to a show that each of these individuals promoted over the last three months and many more that were sanctioned by other sanctioning bodies. They felt the need to share with me their shock that EVERY Kickboxing show they attended started a minimum 20 minutes late. One was 50 minutes late. They said they were interested in kickboxing as a fight sport for their channel, but didn't think we were organized enough as a sport to discipline our own promoters to start on time. We talked a little more and then parted ways with his assurance that they were no longer looking at kickboxing but were next looking at a new sport called cage fighting. I don't need to tell you the station and I don't need to tell you what happened from there... We all know.

Needless to say, maybe as Martial Artists (Which most of us in kickboxing or Muay Thai are I believe), we are lacking what we were taught from the beginning... Discipline.

Lets back up even further... What about your fight posters? Are they professionally done or just a cut and paste job? Do they do their job in exciting the fight fans when they see them? Are they informative?

Lets take yet another step back. We tell every promoter, trainer and even fighter that we will post any press release they have here on the IKF News page. However, very few take full advantage of this. Thousands of fight fans visit the IKF site EVERY DAY, and they could be reading about YOU, your event, your fighter or anything else related to the sport of kickboxing. As Jerry Maguire said in the movie, "Help us Help YOU!"

THIS is the GUT CHECK people.
It may not sound pretty, but it needs to be said now to "ALL" of us, before we lose more ground in the sport. There are still a lot of kickboxers around the world that have no desire to try MMA. There are still a lot of Great Kickboxing Promoters who have been, and will continue to remain loyal to Kickboxing. The question is, will we take this long, disciplined look at ourselves and FORCE a change, or do we want to stay in the downward spiral the sport is in and throw the towel in to MMA?

We need to stop looking around wondering why MMA has past us up as a spectator sport because believe me, no one in MMA is wondering how Kickboxing or Muay Thai is doing. We need to stop wondering and worrying about a lot of things such as why we may not like a certain kickboxing fighting style, other kickboxing promoters, other kickboxing sanctioning bodies, whatever it is, and start looking at ourselves.

"Are we as individuals doing everything we can to make our sport more exciting to watch, more valued to the fight fan and more credible as a sport?"

Each of us needs to put more into our position and help elevate the sport as a whole instead of waiting for someone else to come along and invent "The next big thing..." "WE" as individuals need to make ourselves the next big thing. Again, what sets you apart from the rest of the pack?

Steve Fossum

As I close here I'd like to offer a little advice and a secret that helped the IKF in the very beginning grow to where it is today. When Dan Stell (Co-Founder of the IKF) and I thought about starting a kickboxing sanctioning body, we wondered how many people would laugh at us and whatever letters we would make up as our name. However, what brought us to start the IKF was not the letters, but the simple fact that we vowed to be much more than "Letters". We wanted to "Make a difference in the sport." Just saying we want to do this though was not enough. We knew the other big three at the time, (ISKA, WKA and at the time, KICK) were big, so we knew we were not going to be the biggest in the beginning of course. However, if we could find a way to stand out, find a niche that would make us "Different," we would become known because of this difference and this would lead to us surpassing the others as we have done today. That difference came in the organization of not just the IKF but the events we sanctioned.

Dan Stell

For example, the Rankings were the number one thing that set us apart from the beginning, but not just rankings, the info we had in those rankings and making them public became priceless to everyone. Fighters got exposure, trainers were suddenly known by name and promoters no longer had to pay thousands of dollars for matchmakers or for a matchmakers trainers list. Putting these rankings into the original IKF Monthly ranking and news books set us apart and put us on our way. Today, this web site replaces those monthly books, and the theory is the same... "Do more than the others do, and give more than expected!" This simple secret is what made the IKF what it is today.

Many more things followed in our history such as our own custom IKF Belts, Merchandise, the IKF Tournaments as well as the many other things created over the years here within the IKF website. What I am saying is, you can't just make up some letters and be a sanctioning body, no more than you can hit and kick a bag and call yourself a fighter or sell a few tickets and call yourself a promoter. The secret is, you need to stand out in the crowd. What makes you DIFFERENT? What makes people WANT to come see you fight, see your events, see our sport?

For those who have visited my personal schedule page, you are greeted with a saying by Robert Frost. If you have never read it, I will share it with you here;

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I... I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference."

In doing so, I now challenge all of you to step off your normal road and create your own path as a fighter, trainer, official or promoter. What can YOU do as your part of this Great sport to make yourself DIFFERENT than those next to you? You may not be a Champion today, but I assure you that if you do more than the other guy, you will someday stand out in the crowd with your peers as our many Fight Fans say, "Now THAT was Great Kickboxing!"

Does USA Need A Gut Check For
Kickboxing?

The first month of this year has forced those in Kickboxing to do an honest "Gut Check" as to where the sport is as well as where it is going in it's future. With no current TV Deals and no TV Exposure other than the few shows ESPN II carries from 8- 10 years ago, it makes many wonder if there is a future for the once vibrant sport.

It's no secret that the success of MMA has brought a blow to the pure fighting styles of Kickboxing and Muay Thai. However, the lack of shows is not just felt here at the IKF. It's EVERY Sanctioning Body in North America. In the month of January the IKF only sanctioned 2 Kickboxing events. The IKF's sister organization for MMA though, the ISCF, Sanctioned 7 events in January and last year sanctioned over 400 MMA events. However, the slump has been happening for some time now. In January of 2007 the IKF only Sanctioned 1 event. In January of 2006 the IKF Sanctioned 7 events. Of those 7, 2 were in Illinois, 1 in California, 1 in Iowa, 1 in Missouri, 1 in Minnesota and 1 in England.

Of those 7, only 2 of those promoters are no longer with the IKF and neither of them held a January event this year. In fact, only 1 of them is still promoting kickboxing having started his own sanctioning body now while the other switched to MMA Promotions just this year.

As for the California promoter, that was his first and last event, mainly focusing on his new gym now. As for other California Kickboxing events, the high cost of required fighter insurance ($50,000) has all but killed the Amateur side of the sport here but word has it, the first Kickboxing event in California will happen in March and it is to be an IKF Sanctioned event. Word has it that California Amateur kickboxers are so hungry for fights, the event may feature over 20 bouts on the night.

However, totalling both amateur and pro kickboxing that was sanctioned by the State of California's Athletic Commission, the State of California didn't have more than 10 Kickboxing events all of last year. In fact, that number may be closer to only 5 or 6. Other than the proposed March event, NONE are on the current California Commission Calendar which is FILLED with MMA and of course, Pro Boxing. That's a far cry from when the IKF Alone has sanctioned more than 20 Kickboxing events in a single year in years past in California.

As for those other 4, 2006 IKF Promoters, all are still doing IKF Sanctioned events, they just didn't do any events in January.

It's easy to point fingers at the reasons for the decline but the reality is, "MMA GOT TV!"
That's the fact of the story! When Spike TV and UFC (Ultimate Fighting Challenge) hooked up on basic cable TV, MMA Exploded. It was a shot in the arm for a sport that already had been growing and the Spike/UFC TV Deal put it over the top! NO kickboxing event or TV company has done for kickboxing what Spike has done for MMA. Spike not only signed a deal, but they put millions of dollars into marketing MMA as well. When Kickboxing had an ESPN II Deal, ESPN put ZERO into marketing the sport.

Even Chuck Norris' WCL (World Combat League) isn't making it by the numbers. Unlike Spike's deal with UFC, the WCL (Like the IKF TV Show) has to pay Versus TV to air their programs. Not only is the WCL scoring low at the box office, but it's TV scores aren't much better either. Their desire to disassociate themselves from the word "Kickboxing" yet their desire to use "Kickboxers" for their fighters never set well with the purest of the sport.

However, grading on the curve, the WCL scores a "10" for Kickboxing on TV even though it does very little, if anything to help the real sport of kickboxing that is fought in a Boxing ring over several "Rounds" of action. No offense intended but lets call it what it is. The WCL is simply 1 round, full contact " Karate" fighting just like Norris did himself. No wonder the WCL doesn't want to call it kickboxing... It's Not.

Still, the ever so hungry Pro Kickboxers are being lead to the WCL not for it's greatness, but because it's really the only stand-up style Pro Kickboxing venue for them. Really now... Where else can these Pro Kickboxers here in America go? Even K-1 USA is gone now. As for what we meant by "Grading on the Curve", since the WCL is the "Only" Stand up Kickboxing on TV, they get their 10 by default. A great Production with exciting lights and action, but it's not what we all want to see... Which is KICKBOXING!

Still, the WCL is NOT the reason Kickboxing has been slimming down over the last 3 years and the IKF isn't the least active kickboxing sanctioning body by far. Despite the slowing numbers, the IKF still ranks as the most visited Kickboxing site on the internet which says a lot for it's credibility.

However, looking at the other Kickboxing Sanctioning Bodies, not only are their internet visitor numbers down but so are their events. Of the other Sanctioning Bodies (That have or do sanction fights in North America) things don't look any busier. For the month of January, the USKBA (0), WAKO (0), KICK (1), WKA (1), USMTA (0), WMTC (1), TBA (0), and ISKA (1) "Together" didn't sanction more than 5 Kickboxing events this past January. Some still haven't sanctioned a Kickboxing event this year.

What we have seen though are sanctioning bodies started up by promoters so they can sanction their own fights, make their own rules and not have to answer to anyone. Not to mention making up their own titles from contenders that don't exist because they don't even have rankings. While most other Kickboxing titles have become something everyone seems to be able to attain, even a losing fighter, an IKF title still holds it's value in knowing those who fought for it were not only a qualified contender but a ranked contender as well in REAL Rankings.

Self invented sanctioning bodies by Promoters is one of the areas the sport has been hurt. As mentioned, Title Credibility is at an all time low. It seems anyone can win a kickboxing title from some of these other sanctioning bodies (Even a Pro World Title) as long as they pay their sanctioning fees. Sadly, even after they win their title, you never read about them on any news pages or see them in any rankings as you can an IKF Champion as well as his or her opponent. What about after they retire? The IKF is the ONLY sanctioning body that keeps a past Champions page so these great Champions as well as their opponents will never be forgotten.

When promoters wanted to "do their own thing," the sport surly started to dilute among it's peers. The IKF web site use to be a place to find all kinds of kickboxing news. However message board squabbling, infighting among trainers, fighters, promoters as well as attacks on the IKF that forced the IKF into defensive positions defending themselves from internet stories by those looking to "Bring the IKF down" hurt everyone and the sport. What was a legit sport quickly turned into "Cat Fights" among the sports peers. Although the "Cat Fighting" and the "Problem making Story Tellers" are pretty much gone, the blows they gave are still felt, not just with the IKF but the sport overall.

Those in the sport of Kickboxing fought among themselves for positioning and ego and stepping back and looking at it from a distance it appears MMA is dealing the final blows to as we said again, a once vibrant sport.

Now...
For those who believe Kickboxing has delt it's final kick, Think Again.

While many of the other sanctioning bodies are turning their efforts towards MMA, the IKF has allowed the additional leadership of it's sister organization, the ISCF to focus on MMA while the IKF Leaders work to re-build the sport of kickboxing once again as it did in the late 90's.

The ISCF is celebrating the exciting launch of the IBL - International Battle League (www.iblfights.com) which is the first ever Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Fighting League much like the Pro IFL, International Fight League (www.ifl.tv) which the ISCF sanctions. However, what many don't know is that the ideas for the IBL were first created for an Amateur Kickboxing League which was in play even long before the WCL. This once desired plan from long ago has resurfaced once again and an "Amateur Kickboxing League" is on the horizon.

In addition, IKF Point Kickboxing (www.ikfpkb.com) is growing faster than ever and building the sport back from the ground up creating more and more exciting fighters that will in no time be top competitive kickboxers in the full contact arena.

IKF Team Europe in association with the IKF Headquarters has been building up IKF Europe over the past few months and is now 10 times stronger than the former IKF Europe ever was.

The IKF is also working on this years 10th Annual IKF World Classic Amateur Kickboxing Tournament in Orlando Florida set for this July. With the official addition of IKF Point Kickboxing and the promised teams already from Europe, this years IKF World Classic may be the biggest ever.

As for you Pro Kickboxers, the IKF has been working on something for you too but we don't want to step up and announce it just yet. As we mentioned above and many here already know, K-1 USA is no more, and it's time someone here in America step up and provide a World Class Venue for Pro Kickboxers & Muay Thai Fighters at EVERY weightclass in REAL Kickboxing style fights... Which is something the IKF has been working on and is looking forward to announce soon.

Yes, MMA is Exploding and we are excited about their success. But the coals of kickboxing are still hot and all this sport needs is a breath of fresh air to light them on fire once again. As the saying goes, "The Secret of Success in life is to be ready for opportunity when it comes." Your door is about to be knocked on Kickboxing, it will be up to you if you want to open it...

The People of Hinckley Minnesota witnessed a "miracle" on Friday, February 15, 2008. Both fighters showed tremendous heart and determination in this 10 round war. The first 2 rounds were close as both fighters exchanged blows in the middle of the ring. In round 3 Streater landed a solid overhand right which dazed Bandiera. Streater followed up with several devastating blows that would have put most fighters to the canvas, but not Miracle Mitz. The same heart and determantion that brought Mitz back from his near fatal motorcycle accident just 2 years ago was the same heart and determantion that brought him back from round 3. Mitz answered the bell for round 4 like a man on a mission. Mitz gained momentum as the rounds went on earning himself the IKF Pro FCR Central North American Title defeating Mark Streater by unaminous decision 97-93, 97-92 and 97-92.

Former IKF World Champion
Don "The Dragon" Wilson
Still Kickin In The Last Sentinel

Former IKF Pro World Champion Don "The Dragon" Wilson is still in the spotlights! Last year he completed the filming of yet another movie, The Last Sentinel.

Last year Don told us, "Although there is some Martial Arts in the film, this is not my usual Martial Arts style film. This is a Science Fiction film with tons of Explosive Action. My next project is called the Samaritan and it will have a lot of Martial Arts in it." explained Don.

Here is a breakdown of the Movie:
The last of the legendary 700th, the last of the warriors, our last hope... The Last Sentinel. It's defences crippled, mankind has been slaughtered to the brink of extinction by the drone police. Tallis is the last of the last, after his unit was destroyed in the final terrible battle of the last great war. Living a life of survival, he is only ever one step ahead of the creation humankind hoped would bring peace on Earth, the Drone. When Tallis crosses paths with a young freedom fighter known only as "The Girl" his world changes. Tallis finds his reason to fight again, but, this time he'll wage outright war! Set against a back ground of mythic proportions, with a spectacular cast of characters, "The Last Sentinel" is the story of a hero of ancient principals, of a poet warrior of the classic type.

Here is a page of some of the clips during filming, just click HERE!

Don't forget, Don will once again be the Guest of Honor at this years 2008 IKF World Classic in Orlando, Florida this July.
