POINT KICKBOXING

2010 IKF Point Muay
Thai World Kickboxing Championship...
Successful and Growing Annually!
Orlando, Florida, USA
This past weekend in Orlando, Florida, the IKF World Classic Kickboxing
Championship was the biggest ever in its 12 year history. Fighters
literally came from around the world to compete in the Full Contact and the Semi
Contact tournament. There were lots of thrills of victory and yes, especially
this year, some agony of defeat (more in later articles). However, I
think most there would agree that this was the best year ever with stiff
competition and a ton of fight fans to cheer the fighters on. Again this year,
the semi contact division of IKF
Point Muay Thai Kickboxing was a major hit! The IKF PKB as it is
called, was scheduled to start on Saturday night at 6:PM. However, due to
some delays, the event didn't start until after 7:PM. All those waiting for the
event were not disappointed as the action was HOT! Next year, we are
working on measures to assure the start of the tournament will be as advertised
as we continue to improve the event.
Kicking off the tournament was returning 2009 IKF Point Muay Thai World
Classic Kickboxing champion, 8 year old Raphael Marascio of
New Jersey who had another classic battle with newcomer Keelie Cargill
of Oklahoma. Marascio as always was very aggressive coming in with a
barrage of punches and kicks. However, Cargill held her own and fought
strong though out the bout although Marascio won the bout unanimously by
the judges. Fight fans witnessing this great match screamed and yelled to the
top of their voices with delight!
IKF
Point Kickboxing is continuing its march across the country and
beyond and more people became familiar with its total potential to transform the
great sport of kickboxing through its incubator process. Don't miss exciting
IKF Point Muay Thai
Kickboxing tournaments in your area and get on your way to taking the
next step out of the gym.

OFFICE CLOSED
Dear Fight
Fans,
Due to our 12th Annual
IKF World Classic Amateur Kickboxing & Muay
Thai Championships in Orlando Florida The International Fight
Sports offices will be closed from Saturday, July 17th until Tuesday evening,
July 20th. Tuesday evening July 20th, we will have our offices set up in Orlando
Florida for the Tournament. Any e-mails will also be returned after Tuesday,
July 20th.
Early Saturday morning, about 1:AM, IKF President Steve Fossum and IKF
Co Founder Dan Stell
will be leaving IKF Headquarters in
Newcastle, California for the long journey to Orlando. The two will drive to
Omaha Nebraska where they will pick up IKF
World Ambassador Brooks
Mason for the second half of the trip. Last year Fossum made the
trip alone. This year Stell and Mason wanted to see what the marathon 3,000 mile
drive was like themselves. They all hope to arrive in Orlando sometime
Tuesday...Unless they get sidetracked with some fight action along the way.
So WHY do they DRIVE to this event every year?
Well, in 2000, the second year of the event, the shipping company lost all the
tournament title belts. It was at that time when Fossum made the
promise, "No fighter will ever again go home without his or her belt,
and I will personally make sure all the Title belts get to the event."
He's kept his promise. Starting in 2001, he has driven to every
IKF
Tournament ever held.

Annual IKF World Classic Amateur Kickboxing &
Muay Thai Championships, click HERE. Thank you and we hope to see you in

This fast-paced mixed card showed the foundation laid by veteran athletes.
Several new fighters demonstrated the techniques and strategies learned from
their experienced coaches and trainers. Congratulations to the many athletes for
competing on this card. Seasoned and pro fighters put on fast-paced and
entertaining matches in Muay Thai and full-contact kickboxing.
- Amateur Super Welterweight Muay Thai
KhamKoung

VS Troy Williams (Little
Canada, Minnesota, USA, 1-0, 155, 5'10 ½ ", 1-24-93, Gee Young)
These novice fighters had different approaches to the art of Muay Thai.
KhamKoung relied on leg kicks and clinches. That wasn't enough to stop
Troy Williams, though, who countered with fast hands, accurate punches,
and a long reach. Troy's calm confidence dominated the fight.
Winner: Troy Williams by unanimous decision 29-28, 30-27,
30-27.
Referee: Ralph Lee
Judges: Ricky Lee Anderson, Derek

This match up was a great fast-past Thai fight. Both fighters had even
exchanges and continued this barrage for all three rounds.

This match started off even. Eric used his height advantage and had
smooth, fast hands, but Jason landed a solid right hand and continued
hitting that target area without letting up. Jason ended the match in
the first round with Eric unable to continue.
Winner: Jason Benson by TKO at 2:07 of round 1.

An incredible fight between two seasoned elders of the sport who have paved
the way for many new athletes. Bobby "The Warrior"
dominated the first round with jabs and front kicks keeping Whitney "Windy
City Warrior" on the defense. Later in the round, Bobby

Muay
Thai Staple
Finally Makes It To
North America...
And The IKF World Classic!
From Thailand... home of Muay Thai and some of the most extreme
warriors in the world comes Namman Muay,
aka Muay Thai Boxing Liniment, Thai Liniment, etc...
Generations of fighters have relied on this one product to
prevent injuries and eliminate the pain that they endure from a sport who's main
purpose is to use one's body to inflict punishment onto your opponent. With all
natural active ingredients derived from plants of the region, Namman Muay continues to serve extreme athletes and
pain suffers well from all walks of life. Now you will have what has helped the
Thai people become some of the most feared fighters in the world. Thanks to
Competitive
Ace - www.competitiveace.com - Namman
Muay's complete product line from liniment, cream, and a brand new
spray formula will be readily available in North America in August 2010.
Exclusively from the manufacturer in Thailand,
Competitive
Ace will bring the authentic Muay Thai Liniment and product line
to North America in varying sizes.
What is Namman Muay
Namman Muay is an herbal liniment made from quality
regional botanicals. Its main active ingredients are derived from plants of the
region and are known to reduce inflammation and aid in blood circulation. The
special formulation produces a product, which has a light, smooth glide upon
application; it is formulated to be fast absorbing. Unlike other products, Namman Muay penetrates the body quickly and does not
leave a greasy nor sticky feeling. Some products can leave you pasty for hours.
In addition, the wintergreen scent also has its followers. A side benefit is
that the scent is believed to open nasal passages helping to improve oxygen
intake while increasing alertness.
Namman Muay serves as a
warming agent to loosen and prepare the body for what's the punishment ahead and
as a recovery aid. With any repetitive action coupled with force, injuries are
common from contracted muscles, joints, and ligaments which block proper blood
flow and oxygenation. Namman Muay helps
power your performance and recovery.
Background
Still only made in
Thailand, a country famous for its Muay Thai and their body oils. The current
CEO is Thai and a direct descended of the founders who officially formulated it,
he does have a PhD in
Pharmaceuticals from USC. His father who lead the company before him was also a
boxing coach and trained Thailand's first world boxing champion; 3-time
flyweight Champion Pone Kingpetc. (Shown in left photo, 3-time Flyweight
Champion Pone Kingpetch and his trainer Mr. Thongtos Intratat (pevious
Namman Muay owner)
Throughout Thailand, Namman Muay
is clearly visible in every Muay Thai gym / camp and at every fight promotion;
its an integral part of their daily lives. Fighter's entire bodies are rubbed
with Namman Muay after pores are open from
a slight warm-up such as jumping rope. This is done at workouts and as a
pre-fight procedure and regularly done afterwards as well. Stadiums in Thailand
house massaging areas where fighters will have Namman
Muay applied.
*A recent study indicates that regular use of herbal liniment
use is an effective tool to significantly reduce pain, joint tenderness, joint
swelling, mobility restriction and early morning joint stiffness. Not
surprisingly, Racehorses are also known to have liniment applied to on a regular
basis. As we all know, injuries can be more than the difference between comfort
and discomfort, it can be the difference between successful and consistent
training and winning!
What Now?
Previously
only available sporadically through smuggled product from Thailand, the product
will now officially enter North America with FDA registration and a translated
label. The Official Brand Rep, Competitive Ace is promising consistent
inventory levels, delivery in days versus weeks without the ridicules shipping
fees customers have had to endure from Thailand, and fresh product with a long
shelf-life maintained in adequate temperature conditions.
Competitive
Ace sites that many unofficial resellers selling expired product
with several year old discontinued packaging. Besides having a shelf life, Namman Muay should be maintained in the appropriate
temperature range.
Competitive
Ace will be looking to distribute Namman
Muay through a network of top martial art gyms and camps. Students
will soon have the comfort of purchasing their Namman
Muay supplies through their local gym / school. In cases where Namman Muay is not available in your gym, purchases
will also be available online at www.CompetitiveAce.com
Customers familiar with Namman Muay
will now enjoy a translated label with a product facts panel on the rear.
Competitive
Ace is promising delivery within days versus weeks and with
product maintained within acceptable temperature ranges and with a long shelf
life. In the past, customers were exposed to ordering from Asia where Ocean
Freight could take 30 days, not knowing the conditions the product was
warehoused nor shipped in, or if the product had expired.
Competitive
Ace will have a booth at this years IKF World Classic in Orlando,
Florida. Make sure to stop by their booth and visit them as we
are sure they will have a long relationship with the IKF!

Fonnest, North Brach Kickboxing)
VS
Tim Beseth, (Cambridge, Minnesota, USA, 0-1, 195, 6' 2, 7-14-80,
Jimmie Johnson, CMMA, Cambridge Mixed Martial Arts)
Referee: Chris
Cichon
Judges: Bill Lassi, Mike Lind, Rick Anderson
In the opening round both
fighters were a little impatient and nervous, swinging wildly trying to land the
"Big One". It was Rush that was able to land good,
well placed shots that resulted in an 8 count for Beseth. During the 2nd
round Beseth was able to pick up the pace but Rush just seemed
to be more poised and composed. Beseth was able to find his rhythm to
take the 3rd round - BUT as we say, "Too little too late."
Winner: Tom Rush by Unanimous decision, 27-29, 27-29,
27-29.
- Amateur FCR Kickboxing, 3 Rounds
Dave
Wright, (Mondovi, Wisconsin, USA, 3-0-1, 160, 5'9" 9-5-86. Mike
Lind, Eau Claire Kickboxing)
VS Jason Newton (Rockford,
Illinois, USA, 1-1, 159, 6', 7-5-89, Todd Green & Danny Olson, Team Green
Kickboxing)
Ref: Chris Cichon
Judges: Bill Lassi, Heath Fonnest, Rick Anderson
This fight starts out
fast action and fun to watch. Newton was trying to establish his obvious
TaekwonDo experience with switch kicking and lots of spins. Wright was
very patience and waited threw the storm of kicks, which few of them found any
solid target. It paid off! Wright scored an 8 count in the 2nd as Newton
fatigued badly. In the 3rd round Newton was so tired it appeared as if
he could not hold his arms up to protect himself. There was no 8 count given but
two of the three judge's scored an 8-10 for Wright in the 3rd. Fighting
in the ring is its own world, and one must understand the principles to be
effective. I believe Newton has a good future with kickboxing, he just
needs to make the transition.
Winner: Dave Wright
by unanimous decision, 30-26, 30-25 & 29-26.
- Amateur FCR Kickboxing - 3 Rounds
Nate
Payne, (Zimmerman, Minnesota, USA, 1-0, 215, 6'2", 10-21-81, Jimmie
Johnson, CMMA, Cambridge Mixed Martial Arts)
VS
Mike Yount (Stanley, Wisconsin, USA, 5-5, 227, 1-29-85, Mike Lind,
Eau Claire Kickboxing)
Ref: Chris Cichon
Judges: Bill Lassi, Heath Fonnest, Rick Anderson
The heavyweights enter
the ring
Payne with an 0-0 recorded looked experienced in
something? He scored upper cut after upper cut and his overall ringmanship
looked as if he was a seasoned amateur. Payne was able to dominate
rounds 1 & 2 with movement, being relaxed and good display of boxing
accompanied with an occasional high kick - impressive! Yount just
couldn't find the mark, until the 3rd! It was a different fight. Yount
was able to take the 3rd round with ease. The rolls got totally reversed. Yount
looked as if he just needed a better warm up, or more rounds to really get
going. Yount landed a crushing roundhouse kick to Payne's body,
that was notably effective - and he continued to land and score with that kick,
there may be a broken rib or two? I believe Yount will be a better pro
fighter with more rounds to fight. It will be exciting to see what happens with
this fighter.
Winner: Nate Payne by Unanimous
decision, 29-28, 29-28, 29-28.
- Amateur FCR Kickboxing, 3 Rounds
Brett
Jones (Rockford, Illionis, USA, 1-1, 149, 5'9", 3-11-90, Todd
Green, Danny Olson, Troy Hughes, Team Green Kickboxing)
VS
Dave Pekarek (Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, 15-8, 151, 5'8",
11-19-76, Twin Cities Kickboxing & Cellar Kickboxing).
Ref: Bill
Lassi
Judges: Mike Lind, Heath Fonnest, Rick Anderson
It is fun to see
fighters being active and having fun - as is the case with Pekarek. I
have watched him thrrough the years and he continues to keep walking the walk,
and just having fun out there. However, we have the younger stronger Jones
that dominated all rounds and is trying to make a name for himself. This was not
a burn burner, but just fun to watch.
Winner: Brett Jones by Unanimous decision, 30-27,
30-27, 29-28
- IKF
Amateur FCR Light Welterweight Minnesota State Title
Nick
Riley (Little Canada, Minnesota, USA, 4-1, 138, 5'6", Jon Lewis,
Cellar Kickboxing)
VS John Profant (Cambridge,
Minnesota, USA, *0-2, 139, 5'9", 10-20-90,
Jimmie Johnson, CMMA, Cambridge Mixed Martial Arts)
Ref: Bill Lassi
Judges:
Mike Lind, Heath Fonnest, Rick Anderson
This 4 round fight was completely
controlled by Riley. This kid has got the whole package... movement,
rhythm, kicks & punches - very relaxed and poised as a fighter. He has the
look of a professional! I also noticed the high kicking ability of Profant
and his own level of awesome-ness as he was able to put some good shots
together. There were times that Profants kicks were telegraphed and Riley
was able to block, move, or Super Man punch his way out. The 4th round was the
best to watch as both fighters let it all go, both fighters composed and relaxed
but busy, a very classy and professional looking fight! Thank you fellas!!!
Winner: Nick Riley by Unanimous decision, 36-40,
37-39, 36-40. Riley is the new Minnesota State Champion!

Brandon
Buchholz (Minnesota, USA, Pro 9-6, A 3-1, 145, 5'7", 11-24-81)
VS
Todd Brukes (Prior Lake, Minnesota, USA, Pro 0-1, A 2-1-1, 145, 5'7",
1-10-70, Sergio Cunha, Minnesota Fight Factory)
Ref: Chris Cichon
Judges: Bill Lassi, Heath Fonnest, Rick Anderson
This was the first
Professional fight of the night. 5 rounds of Muay Thai action. It was very
obvious Brooks had a lack of experience as an all around fighter.
However, he was there to bring it and fought as long as he could and put
together some damaging techniques. Buchholz just took his time and
gained his rhythm as each round went by. You could see he was trying a little of
this and a little of that until a devastating leg kick found a SLAPPING,
CRACKING target. Brooks showed the damage of the kick by cringing
grimacing and limping badly. However Buchholz was hesitant on landing
that shot again, I don't know why - it was there for him on a platter! Buchholz
was able to land that kick a couple more times in the coming rounds which added
to the damage and was a perfect set up for the head kick that dropped Brooks
and simultaneously the referee stepped in as Brooks' corner throws in
the towel.
Winner: Brandon Buchholz by TKO at
1:10 of round 5.
- Todd Brukes has been issued a 30 day medical
suspension due to his TKO - Suspension over on 7-27-10.
- PRO International Rules 5 Rounds
Neil
Halmstad (Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, USA, Pro 3-2, AM 24-9-2, 159, 5'10",
2-9-75, Mike Lind, Eau Claire Kickboxing)
VS Bryan Lachia (Lombard,
Illinois, USA, 0-1,159, 5'9", 6-8-90, Sergio Cunha, Minnesota Fight Factory)
Referee:
Bill Lassi
Judges: Heath Fonnest, Rick Anderson, TBA
This was the only
International Rules fight of the night. Once again we see experience vs. youth.
Experience takes control here. Halmstad took a very early lead in this
fight with patience and well placed combinations. Lachia started out
wild and was trying to bait Halmstad into distracting movements. Halmstad
walked threw all Lachia's attacks and in the 2nd round takes Lachia's
wind by a 1, 2 punch followed by round house kick to the body, for the 8 count.
That technique was repeated by Halmstad several times in the 3rd, until
the stoppage by referee Lassi.
Winner:
Neil Halmstad by TKO at 1:05 of round 3.
- Bryan Lachia has been issued a 30 day medical
suspension due to his TKO - Suspension over on 7-27-10.
- PRO Muay Thai 5 Rounds
Rico
Washington (Vadnais Heights, Minnesota, USA, PKB: 0-1,
Pro MMA 14-6, 170, 5'8", 7-22-79, Sergio Cunha,
Minnesota fight Factory)
VS
Eric Ortiz (St. Paul, Minnesota, USA, Pro 3-0, Am 0-1, 169, 5'11"
7-26-83, Chris Cichon, Cellar Kickboxing)
Ref: Bill Lassi
Judges: Mike Lind, Heath Fonnest, Rick Anderson
In the first round there was not much action at all, both fighters trying
to figure the other out. Washington showed that he had very fast
punching speed and power - but nothing landed. Ortiz, testing the
waters, was able to land just a couple of techniques right at the end of the
round to win it. The 2nd round was pretty much the same deal as both fighters
showed "too" much respect for each other and no one was able
to commit and engage. This is a very common thing that happens to two fighters
very much ready to get it on, but exercise too much caution in the fear that a
mistake may result in a short night. As the rounds continued the crowd was
instigating the action and cheering their corner on. There were brief fight
encounters but the whole of the fight remained slow with little action. In the
5th we saw an increase in action as both fighters stood toe to toe trying to
steal the last round. In the end, Ortiz was able to do just a bit more
clinching and striking to win a unanimous decision.
Winner: Eric Ortiz by Unanimous decision, 49-46,
49-46 & 48-47.
